Game decisions

Game decisions  I learned a lot from this reading such as that there is a lot of problems associated with making a massively multiplayer online game and it is tricky to build due to technical issues involving server scaling, design issues involving scaling economics, politics, level design, pacing, persistence and progression but also many multi users dungeons are successful such as Minecraft and Fortnite. I also learned how we can borrow from social psychology, an overview of friendship formation, Dunbar's layers and the constraints they place on social system design, social group and the constraints they also introduce, big design insights, opportunities for fulfilling the social motivations of players and conclusion.   Borrowing from social psychology Social game design operates within the physical and mental constraints of the human animal so it pays to understand these constraints and build them into our design. A friendship is a singles bond between two people frie

Game design document

Game design document Overall I felt like planning my game design helped me to gather what I would like to add to my game and helped me look at aspects that I wouldn't have talked about before and helped me plan out my game. My game  is going to be a village with houses and maybe some shops it is basically going to be social interactive game there will be other people in the game which you will be able to interact with. In my game I am also going to add customizing aspects and design so you can create your own character also I will be creating a design aspect were you can design and customize your own home I also will be adding a variety of activities to do in the game the other characters in the game will give the player activities to do for them I will also add some other activities the player can chose from there will also be levels in the game were the player has to complete certain activities to level up and unlock new items. I am also thinking of creating different maps so t

Unity tutorial 05

Unity tutorial 05 I learned a lot from these Jimmy Vegas unity tutorials I learned how to add text and how to change the color of text I also learned how to add raw images and how to change the shapes of them. I also learned in c script how to add sound to the diamond and how to link action display, action text and extra cursor to the diamond. I also learned how to add more objects such as a fence and how to duplicate it and how to make objects look more realistic by using textures. I learned how to add objects to the person in the game and how to make objects move with the person when he walks I also learned how to make the object move by using animation by changing the position and scale with 60 frames per second. I also learned how to use layers so that the object will no clip into any other objects. I also learned how to make an object move and swing using c script also how to add sound to an object by using c script also. I am looking forward to starting my game and using some o

Games GDD

Games GDD I learned a lot from the reading this week especially how certain aspects can help increase a games appeal and how good design can affect a game massively. Components can go a long way in determining how much a game is enjoyed some components that might help game design would be to make the tiles smaller than the spaces they are placed upon, use highly contrasting/distinguishable colors for player pieces, use shape as well as color to distinguish pieces, starting tiles should be back printed in a different color, use a legible and distinguishable font and avoid clutter. The design of the box has nothing to do with how the game plays but there are still issues to consider the first impressions of a game come from the box and so a good design will go a long way some examples of the box design that could make a game box look better would be to list the name of the game on the side of the box, make sure any "back of the box" photo shows a legal game position, print opp

Game vision statement

Game vision statement  Introduction The game that I am basing my game of is Animal crossing I chose to base my game of Animal crossing because I just felt like it was very similar to a game that I wanted to create also it is just a fun interesting game and has loads of creative and adventure aspects to it which I really like. The genre of this game is it is a social simulation game which basically means that it explores social interactions between multiple artificial lives which are the animals in the game. The setting of animal crossing is the town or the village. Nintendo developed this game and it has a wide variety of platforms such as the Wii, Nintendo DS, Nintendo switch and many more. Background Animal crossing was first released on the 14th of April 2001 the developers are Nintendo and the publishers are also Nintendo Animal crossing also has spin offs such as Happy home designer, Amiibo festival and pocket camp the latest release of Animal crossing was on the 25th of Oct

Feedback strategies

Feedback strategies  Try feed forward instead of feedback - feed forwar d The point in this article is to show how feed forward can often be preferable to feedback in every day interactions and can be effective and efficient and can make life more enjoyable.   Feed forward helps people envision and focus on a positive future b y giving people ideas on how they can be even more successful we can increase their chances of achieving this success in the future,  constructively delivered feedback is often seen as negative as it necessarily involves a discussion of mistakes feed forward is almost always seen as positive because it focuses on solutions not problems.  Feed forward is especially suited to successful people successful people like getting ideas that are aimed at helping them achieve their goals.  Feed forward can come from anyone who knows about the task it does not require personal experience with the individual f eed forward just requires having good ideas for achieving the

Unity tutorial 03

Unity tutorial 03 I have learned a lot from this unity tutorial I have learned how to create a clock from objects such as cubes and cylinders and how to position, scale and rotate them in the right positions which I found really helpful. I also learned how to create materials to add to the objects to add color and how to use a mesh collider component I also learned what is a child object and a parent object. The most important part of this tutorial would have to be the c# script it taught me how to get objects to move by using class and transform I found this very interesting but it was hard it did not work for me at first but I finally got it to work after a while I might not use anything I learned in this tutorial but it was good to learn new things about unity I might use some of the information I learned from the tutorial about c# script in my game. I am looking forward to start creating my game and all the information I have learned so far in unity and making my game look as goo

Game idea research

Game idea research Animal crossing Animal crossing is a social simulation video game series developed by Nintendo in animal crossing the player character is a human who lives in a village inhabited by various animals carrying out various activities including fishing, bug catching, fossil hunting. One feature I really like in animal crossing is the customization available some of which affects the outcome of the game the character is both named and gendered by the real life player at the start of the game and you can change their appearance by buying or designing clothes and accessories or change their hairstyle. The players house can also be furnished, decorated and can be expanded you can purchases and collect furniture.  Its terrain, building locations and initial residents are randomly generated. Collecting items is a major part of animal crossing the player can explore the village and gather objects including fruit from trees, seashells and discarded items nearly all objects ca

Games MDA

Games MDA  I learned a lot from this reading I learned the mechanics, dynamics and aesthetics they are also the three views of games I also learned that MDA is a taxonomy for models I also learned the properties of a good model which are formal, abstract and proven. I also understand aesthetics there are eight kinds of sensation, fantasy, narrative, challenge, fellowship, discovery, expression, submission, I also learned how to clarify aesthetics which are charades, quake and final fantasy and clarifying our goals which are competition the successes are players want to win and the failures are a player feels they can not win and a player can't measure his progress, realistic fight simulation the successes are match a mathematical formula the failures are counter intuitive system behavior, drama the successes are a sense of uncertainty and inevitability also tension increases towards a climax and the failures are the climax's outcome is obvious and there is no sense of forward

Workshop 1

Workshop 1 I enjoyed watching these unity tutorials by Jimmy Vegas I learnt how to add sound to an object with coding and how to collect a object in a game and how to add dips and how to add water I also learned how to make objects look  more realistic with textures, lighting and shadows.I also learned how to add an image and how to resize and change the color of the image. I also learned how to add a player casting object with coding I found all this information very helpful and interesting and hope to use it in my own game the one thing I found most interesting was adding sound to an object and learning how to collect an object with coding I also liked learning how to make an object look more realistic as I will definitely be using these effects in my game I also really liked the water effect and I might use this in my game the one thing I found most difficult was learning how to cast an object because it took me a while to figure it out but I do find these tutorials very helpful

Game elements

Game elements I found the reading very interesting the reading explained the qualities of games all games have recurring themes such as games have rules, conflict, goals, decision making and a uncertain outcome games are also activities, voluntary, they contain elements of make believe, they are art and a closed system.Games are formal elements which means they are explicitly defined. I also learned about the atomic elements of games which are players some examples of player structure would be solitaire(1 player vs the game) and free for all(1 player vs 1 player vs 1 player ..), objectives some common objectives are capture, destroy, collection, solve, chase, race, escape, build and negation of another goal, rules there are three categories of rules setup, progression of play and resolution, resources is a broad category it means everything is under control of a single player , game state everything in the game together including the current player resources and everything else that makes

Feedback thoughts

Feedback thoughts  Rewire your self-critical brain -  Rewire your self This article taught me how to embrace set backs and that it is okay to fail and to never let stress overwhelm you just take a step back breathe and to practice self care also to focus on your journey and accept your stumbles but congratulate yourself for getting back on track which is also known as REBS short for reality based self congratulation which is a rebellion against your harsh inner critic this helps reduce the chaos of challenging life to a helpful small step accompanied by self congratulation I also learned to never compare your self to other people as that brings you down and to just focus on your self. Seven ways to crush self doubt- seven ways to crush self doubt This article taught me to never compare myself to other people and to try not to get jealous or sad about someone that does better than you I also learned to abandon perfectionism as this perfectionism drives self doubt when you believe

Unity tutorial 01

Unity tutorials  I have learned a lot from the unity tutorials by Jimmy Vegas I did not know how to use unity at all so the tutorials were really helpful I learned a lot about adding objects in such as a cube and sphere, terrain and how to make a terrain high and wide also how to add certain textures to a terrain which I taught was really interesting I learned how to make a terrain wider and just simply how to smooth out objects on a terrain. I also learned how to add different texture packs and certain types of assets to a game such as trees and grass I also learned how to code in unity which was helpful. I have enjoyed adding texture and assets to the game because it made it look so realistic I did find it difficult to figure out how to get a character to walk in the game though. I am looking forward to learn more about unity and to make my game look as realistic as possible as I feel that just makes a game stand out more I am also looking forward to see other peoples games and ide

Game design

Game design I taught that the first reading that I have read was interesting and it taught me a lot such as the definition of what a game is and how to differentiate between different games. I also learned how games are defined which is that a game has an objective, an outcome and a set of rules a game also has properties which are free, separate, unproductive, make believe, closed formal system and formal, games are a form of art in which the participants make decisions in order to pursuit a goal. So far from the first reading what I have learned is that games have rules, conflict, goals, they involve decision making, they involve no material gain, they have an uncertain outcome, they have a system and they are a representation of something real.Games such as puzzles and role-playing games usually have problems and will likely be imperfect. I have also learned that most games are stories and games and play are concepts that are related. From this reading I have expanded my knowledg
