Animal crossing

Animal crossing is a social simulation video game series developed by Nintendo in animal crossing the player character is a human who lives in a village inhabited by various animals carrying out various activities including fishing, bug catching, fossil hunting. One feature I really like in animal crossing is the customization available some of which affects the outcome of the game the character is both named and gendered by the real life player at the start of the game and you can change their appearance by buying or designing clothes and accessories or change their hairstyle. The players house can also be furnished, decorated and can be expanded you can purchases and collect furniture.  Its terrain, building locations and initial residents are randomly generated. Collecting items is a major part of animal crossing the player can explore the village and gather objects including fruit from trees, seashells and discarded items nearly all objects can be sold for bells(currency in the game) players collect objects to get more bell. Special items such as fossils and paintings can be donated to the village museum. The player can also socialize with other animals buy talking to them and visiting their houses. The video games internal clock and calendar are played in real time some in game events such as holidays occur at certain times.

I chose this game because it is similar to what I want to do in my own game I really like the idea of a character who is in a town with other people and you can design your own house, clothing, hair etc and you can walk around the village and socialize with the other characters which I really like as well.

Game mechanics
1) The first game mechanic I would add to my game would have to be spawn so the player can spawn into the game if anything is to happen in the game they can re spawn back into the game.
2)The second game mechanic I would like to add to my game would inventory so the player can store items.
3)The third game mechanic I would like to add would be that you would have to save your game or you will lose everything you have done.

  1. Hi Jennifer,

I like your blog, easy to read and well thought out, clearly not written on a Wednesday morning. Anyway I really like the idea of saving ! I never thought about all the player progress and how they'll lose it after they turn the game off. Your blog however only focuses on Animal crossing which is great if I didn't know what Animal crossing is but I do, I played it before and so I know what it is. How will you differ from Animal crossing ? What will make a child/adult pick your game over Animal Crossing ?

Just a few suggestion so here me out:
    1. Maybe have a story ? Animal Crossing usually have a story tied to them, if very basic but still there, that could help differ yourself from Animal Crossing ?

    2. Add more game mechanics, Animal Crossing has lots, as you mention above, bug collecting, shell collecting, fishing and many more ! You could add those into the game, maybe have a skill tree like Sims 3 ? Where you can only collect certain bugs if you're a certain level ?

Those are just two suggestion, anyway your blog is great and can't wait to read it again in the future !

Growth mindset

Growth minds et I have never heard of Carol Dweck before this module but after listening to her Ted talk and her other videos I feel like she is very inspiring but I have heard of a growth mindset before in secondary school and how to expand our mindset. I feel like overall I have a growth mindset and I am open to learning from my mistakes and I am open to learn new things. Since I have started at TU Dublin I feel like my mindset has grown even more because I got to learn so many new things from different modules and from the people in the course and I feel like I have processed it all well one of my biggest challenges was trying to get all my work done for college even though I loved learning new things while also trying to balance a social life. I feel like I would definitely be interested in learning more about growth mindsets in this semester as I feel like I would like to get a better understanding of a growth mindset. I would like to learn more about how to try to keep everythi...
